I’m a commercial pilot with $100K of debt… here’s what I make
0:00 I have over $100,000 of student loans from my flight training. And when I first started flying at just age 18, I knew it was going to be expensive to make a career out of this, but I definitely didn't fully understand what that would financially look like for…
1:24 if you're on like an accelerated program which is part of what my training looked like and another part of going to a full-time flight school and really trying to get your training done within a very short amount of time is all of your time and energy is put…
2:29 a high paying job. So you're stuck with the low paying jobs. And to really put that in perspective, people make as low as minimum wage as a low time pilot, which really isn't great once you have put yourself in so much debt or financial stress to get there.
3:29 That's just where we are, and I'm dealing with the consequences now. But anyways, so far in the past few months of work, I've been done with flight school for a few months now, I have been able to pay off $9,000 of my loan, but I still owe $106,325.
4:44 from plane maintenance, my students' schedules, the weather. And so in the month of July, I flew 42.6 hours and took home $2,010.72 from flight instructing. My second source of income is dog sitting and cat sitting, or really any pet, but I've only done those…
5:47 I have major beef with. It is doing yard and housework for people, which I have no experience, but I found this and found that people actually will pay pretty decently for cleaning their house or pulling weeds in their yard. And so that's where we're at now.…
7:05 That is the month of July. Here's my nice little chart that I'm making. I would like to reiterate that every single month is so, so different, really just depending on how often my students go and fly and how many new clients reach out to me for jobs on…
8:09 I'm going to try. I'm hoping to add a sixth source of income soon. Thank you so much for watching. I hope I showed a little bit of transparency in this stage of becoming an airline pilot. I'm so excited that you're here. Have a fantastic day. I shall see you…
