How passengers helped stop the Flydubai emergency | DW News
0:00 Israel's prime minister says a terror attack was averted Wednesday in the skies between Dubai and Tel Aviv. It happened on a fly Dubai flight when the co-pilot apparently stabbed the pilot in an attempt to hijack the plane and possibly crash it.
2:31 Then we were thrown out. It was a very difficult event. Three of us jumped, we neutralized him, and then the other pilot who is sitting with us went inside, along with the other pilot, and they essentially stabilized the plane.
5:01 That speaks to the stress that the plane was under as it reached, as you said, supersonic speeds. What would the conditions have been like inside the plane at that moment?
7:21 When I heard this, this reminded me of the 9-11 plane over the state of Pennsylvania, Flight 93, that crashed as passengers overtook the hijackers. Now, I thought, though, that after the 9-11 attacks, that cockpit doors on planes were supposed to be fortified…
9:59 There's a harrowing accounts there. I'm going to pull in now Maidan Bar. He is a pilot, a captain with the Israeli airline El Al. He's also a member of the Israeli Pilots Association. Captain, it's good to have you with us. You know, you're a pilot. You know…
12:51 The charts were like exactly as the flight plan. This is the human factor. That is one of the really, let's say, difficult challenges that we are facing. You know, I'm going to take that. Are you talking about trust? Are you talking about trust between…
15:35 I just want to say that, you know, you cannot ignore, as you said before, you cannot ignore the region and the situation in the Middle East. But I can tell you that as an Israeli, those planes and fly Dubai, which their pilots are our friends. And, you know,…
18:10 that pilots are here for your safety and security, and the airspace that is open is safe and secure, and go ahead and fly. This will never change, not tomorrow, not the day after. This investigation will be short and very thoroughly. We will know exactly not…
