Tperating A320 CFM/IAE
1 REACTIEYour rating is valid for both engine types.
I though the CBT had a module for both engines?
IAE will have different limitations than the CFM - just read through the appropriate sections of the FCOM.
IAE use less fuel than the CFM
IAE will not exceed maximum EGT during take-off whilst the CFM will as the engine gets older.
IAE starts slower.
Oil pressure is very high compared to the CFM
Operationally it takes a bit of getting used to flying with EPR (my personal preference is N1). However you can still set thrust using N1 when flying manually.
Power comes off slowly during landing on the IAE - we pulled thrust to idle at 30 feet (I'd never do that with a CFM engine).
I've only flown with the IAE V2500-A1. I've found it to be a reliable engine that always got me to where I wanted to go.
