Rijmpjes in de luchtvaart.
Laatst een vlucht gevlogen als clichémannetje. Alle wijze opmerkingen die ik tijdens mijn training ooit gehoord had passeerden de revue.
Met line-up: Use all available runway because runway behind you will not do you any good (like altitude above and fuel at departure airport)
Op final met de PAPI:
Oeps, Four white, you're gonna fly all night.
Even corrigeren, two red two white, you're all right
en op short final four red you're dead.
Iemand nog meer van deze mooie rijmelarijen? Kunnen we straks een bundeltje uitbrengen met wijsheden.

Pilot's career
Will fly for food
Will hold the door
Can you give me a ride
To the grocery store?
Will fly for cash
Will drop the load
Can you tell me where
I can rinse my throat?
Will fly for gold
Will wave at the door
The girls in the back
All like my floor
Will drive this 'vette
Will pick 'er up
Can't teach her much
'Least her's are up
Will drink this bottle
Will finish it soon
Ex-wife's getting rich
Can't find a spoon
Will tell you how
Will tell you when
This sim's not bad
She's full of zen
Will fly for food
Will hold the door
Hey nice -a- landing
Let's try one more
And then he's off
To try it 'lone
You know he's ready
He'll soon be gone
Maybe one day
You'll hear him say
Well nice one sir
You made my day
Then you will know
This ride was good
And you'll know why
You flew for food!

departure briefings....
The shortest crew brief I know about was two hand gestures, no words. He indicated he would 'go straight' and then 'turn left'.
We will depart DTW just like the last 500 times we did. Follow procedures. Questions?
"You're driving. Lets go."
Two rules that must be followed at all times:
Never bust minimums and never go missed.
This airplane that runway.
Fock up, I'll write you up. Let's go.
If you should look over and see that I've fallen asleep, I'll assume you have taken command of the airplane.
I sure hope we won't lose a engine today. I'm just to d*mn tired to feather an engine.
"Don't scare me, embarrass me or get me violated."
"Do what you want, but don't kill me. I have to make my connection."
"Standard policies, standard procedures, don't rush anything...that being said, my commute home leaves 10 minutes after we're scheduled to block in....hurry up."
Go fast, go high. Any problems, we're going to the nearest bar.
This is an eval flight, you can expect me to do nothing, except in the case of you trying to kill me. In that case, I will crawl up in the fetal postion and scream like a prepubescent boy! Any questions? Great! Good luck.
"This will be the the Aubrey/FedEx visual to runway 27. We'll be aiming for the third 727 on the right. Inertia will take out the ones in front of us, the fireball will take out the ones behind. We'll evacuate through he overhead hatch, f@ck them in the back. Any questions?"
"Don't let me wake up and catch you sleeping."
Anything happens while we're still on the ground, we stop. It's better to slide into that hill than to fly into it...Ready?
Capt: "Questions?"
FO: "Nope."
Capt: "Good, let's go"
(A takeoff briefing. Directed at the engines of a twin Cessna)
"Okay you motherf*ckers, just stay running for two minutes. That's all I need. You hear me? TWO MINUTES. Okay we're ready, let's go."
"If we lose an engine we're not coming back here because I hate this place."

Food for Thought
Food for Thought
In days gone by, I’ve proved my worth
By zooming low across the earth.
I’ve buzzed the valleys and the mountain ridges,
I’ve dove my craft beneath the bridges.
I’ve looped and spun and rolled my wings,
I’ve sung the songs that pilots sing.
I’ve tried most stunts, it must be said,
Yet never learnt to use my head.
So here’s a toast - To you and me!
But you drink both, I’m dead...you see.

Het liefst rijmen en nog een evt wijsheid in zich houden. De amerikanen zijn daar dol op. De boeken van Kershner maar eens doorbladeren.
Via Google:
Balls to the wall
Meaning: To push to the limit, go all out, full speed.
Example: If you study balls to the wall from now on, you just might pass your algebra class.
Origin: A very colorful phrase, one needs to be careful when using "balls to the wall". Although its real origin is very benign, most people assume it is a reference to testicles.
In fact it is from fighter planes. The "balls" are knobs atop the plane's throttle control. Pushing the throttle all the way forward, to the wall of the cockpit, is to apply full throttle.
Alternatively,
Early railroad locomotives were powered by steam engines. Those engines typically had a mechanical governor. These governors consisted of two weighted steel balls mounted at the ends of two arms, jointed and attached to the end of a vertical shaft that was connected to the interior of the engine. The entire assembly is encased in a housing.
The shafts and the weighted balls rotate at a rate driven by the engine speed. As engine speed increases, the assembly rotates at a faster speed and centrifugal force causes the weighted balls to hinge upward on the arms.
At maximum engine speed - controlled by these governors - centrifugal force causes the two weighted balls to rotate with their connecting shafts parallel to the ground and thereby nearly touching the sides - the walls - of their metal housing.
So, an engineer driving his steam locomotive at full throttle was going "balls to the wall". The expression came to be used commonly to describe something going full speed.

High Flight, door John Gillespie Magee Jr.
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air,
Up, up the long delirious burning blue.
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew;
And while with silent uplifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God!

The Pilot's Prayer, author unknown
Oh controller, who sits in tower
Hallowed be thy sector.
Thy traffic come, thy instructions be done
On the ground as they are in the air.
Give us this day our radar vectors,
And forgive us our TCA incursions
As we forgive those who cut us off on final.
And lead us not into adverse weather,
But deliver us our clearances.
Roger.
