CDA approach EHAM

zou dat je wel kunnen bekoren dan?

In the days before CDA
In the days before CDA
Well before this all started:-
I could close the thrust levers at FL 350 and descend with idle thrust down to 500'. Routing was direct "CH" then the ILS 06.
Couldn't get more efficient than that.
Then the CDA came along. 30+ extra track miles and a bunch of restrictions that ensures power always gets added at some point.
Extra track miles = more fuel. Aviation 101. CDA costs fuel.
This is about noise - everything else is just a smokescreen.
Luckily I fly in a region where they don't have stupid things like this - hope it stays this way.

19of77 is completely right.
It's nothing more than a smokescreen and not just in AMS!
The CDA in Amsterdam is only a CDA in geometric sense and in no way resembles a minimum fuel or minimum noise profile. Moreover a typical VNAV/managed descent system which would be recommended to use in CDA's/(P)-RNAV transitions will have residual thrust (above idle).
I bet you that my average non CDA/(P)-RNAV initial approach, even on radar vectors, is more fuel and noise-friendly than the one in AMS. Just politics!
In the UK:
In the London TMA you are encouraged to make a continuous descent below 6000' for noise. You will even be monitored for compliance! Monitoring is done though radar and mode C read-out. Minimum 300fpm will ensure compliance.
So flying at flaps 2 in VS mode -300fpm with the gear down and N1 at 60% is compliant!
And flying level, decelerating at idle thrust is a 'bust'!
:)

Gaat erg slecht samen.
