Bwah.

18 jun
Leuk verhaal inderdaad!
Vroeg me echter hetzelfde af als KL.

Ja, sommige staten verplichten dit zelfs (o.a. VFR nacht U.K).

Gokje,
Maule MXT-7-160 checkout en familiarization (U.K.) 3.5 uur @ 170,00 € per uur (150 £/hour) nat (estimated) = 595,00 € excl. landingsgelden en Instructeur.
Great Circle Mapper trip distance (v.v.): 5129nm
Kist huur droog (estimated): 60,00 € per uur (53,00 £/hour) * 60.3 = 3.618,00 € (zuivere vliegtijd).
Gemiddelde AVGAS prijs (estimated): 3,00 € per liter * 2.112 liter = 6.336,00 €
Kaarten e.d. (estimated): 300,00 €
Landing-en parkeergelden, handling e.d. (estimated): 650,00 €
Opm. handlingfee op Phapos (LCPH) 300,00 €
Totaal (zonder instructeur, taxi's, hotels, bier, sightseeing e.d.): € 11.499,00 €
My 0,02 ;)

FJ: My wife has a small cut in her foot, do you have a bandaid?
R: Yes.
FJ: Well, could you give me a bandaid and a pair of scissors so I can cut the bandaid to size?
R: Yes.
FJ: Is there a first-aid kit?
R: Yes.
FJ: Could you show me the first-aid kit so I can select a bandaid and a pair of scissors?
R: Yes.
Na enige tijd en flink wat frustratie....
FJ: There is no first-aid kit here, is there?
R: Yes.

Hello everyone,
Sorry for not writing in Dutch, but as you can tell from the website, I am better in English! A Dutch-speaking friend linked this thread to me, and I was surprised to see my website is being linked further afield now!
I thought I'd answer a few of the questions that seem to have arisen.
1) The infamous IFR flight plan. Sometimes, you just need to stay safe AND satisfy the bureaucrats. Our Egyptian contact told us to file IFR, as that was required even for flights that were nominally VFR. The entire area was severe VMC the whole time we were there, and naturally no flight into IMC would have been carried out. I have a strong sense of self preservation :)
2) The Artificial Horizon. This was a VFR trip! No AH required. At times over the sea and desert it was very hazy; but any proficient instrument pilot (I have an IR) should be perfectly capable of cruising along in haze using the turn and slip and the VSI/Altimeter for reference. Also, it was unclear what was wrong with the AH; we had the vacuum system fully checked, and that seemed to help; but the bad behaviour was intermittent. It would have cost a lot of time and money to just install a new one on a whim when it was not mission critical.
3) Cost. Thankfully, not as much as GBOF calculated, at least not for me. The owner wanted the aircraft there, and I wanted to fly; so he handed me the aircraft free of charge. All my friends and I had to share were the direct costs; fuel, fees, and food! We got great deals on hotels, and most places the fees were more like 30 Euro than the 300+ at Paphos. I guess I paid about 3000 Euro for 67 hours of flying.
I have nearly finished writing up the trip, just a few more photos to add. Thanks for reading!
