Rescuers last night called off a search operation for a light civilian aircraft which had gone missing.
The two-seater fixed-wing plane set off from Cambridge yesterday morning carrying what is believed to be just the pilot but failed to arrive at its destination at Lydd Airport, Kent.
A seven-hour search involving a Sea King helicopter from RAF Wattisham, Suffolk, and a Coastguard aircraft from Manston failed to find signs of wreckage or suspicious markings.
